3D MODELING FOR DISPLAY DESIGN
While 3D modeling experience can absolutely help make your package designs better, it really shines in display design. Not only can you showcase visuals for how product and displays will look in-store, but they can be exacting in their real-world accuracy.
I was frequently asked to render display mockup images to both help CEO visualize the display, but also to send to our overseas manufacturers making the displays and workers loading the displays so everyone was on the same page, down to the order, placement, and quantity of the items loaded on the shelves.

CASE STUDY: JURASSIC QUEST
MODULAR PRODUCT DISPLAY SYSTEM
Early in my time at JMW I was asked to design a modular product store display system for the traveling event company Jurassic Quest with the goal to help secure a deal providing them with branded science toy merchandise.
It needed to be light weight, completely modular, tough enough for roaming carnival style daily use, and match the theme of the company.
My solution, concept images shown here modeled in Maya, did all of that AND incorporated lighting! Six molded plastic flames on the front of each column, four recessed lights under the arch, and outlets for power at every shelf junction.
JMW’s owner brought me with him to make the sales pitch to the JQ team and later told me that this display system went a long way to helping secure the contract, at that time the largest in company history.
